The music is what matters most... Paul has released 4 recordings
"Beaten Path," on Verse & Bridge Records,
took three years to make, not because it's an incredible project, but mainly because finding time to record in Minneapolis was pretty dang precious. However, during
those three years, Paul lost two very important people in his life; his father, and father-in-law both passed away about four
months apart. There were a number of other trials that Paul encountered during those three years. But, the kid
is strong and came through it all. Trials can make us all better people, if we allow them to. Paul, and his wife,
Linda, have a very strong relationship (34 years & two grown kids). The foundation of that relationship is what
kept them together and in-love during the difficult times. Anyway, Beaten Path has 13 cuts. The CD is graphically
designed around one of Paul's favorite pastimes....bicycling! Unfortunately, the title cut, "Beaten Path,"
wasn't finished in time to include it on the disc. However, Paul came up with a fresh and rather unique (in a "Paul"
way) recording concept of putting the title cut on the succeeding CD, and naming that CD with the title of the CD
that would follow. "That way," Paul surmises, "people would always know the name of at least one song
that would be on the next CD." (Only from the mind of Paul.) Although, we admit he just may be on to a great
marketing concept, which will unlikely be embraced by any other record label than our own.
We'll talk more about Beaten Path
on another page in the future. However, it is available on iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon.com, fuzz.com, and other sites around
the web. You can also simply contact Paul for a copy.
"Sunflower Child," was a single CD release on Verse &
Bridge Records that contained a band version, acoustic version and instrumental track of the song. The song was written in memory of
JohnPloof, a 9-year-old friend of Paul's who tragically lost his life. Since Paul works with elementary students,
he was around a lot grieving young kids. The song helped Paul, as well as many young students process that grief.
John loved sunflowers, hence the title. However, the song is not a sad song. It's pretty happy. Still,
it'll likely make you cry. Paul donated $2.00 from the sale of each CD towards a scholarship fund established in
John's name that will be awarded to one of his third grade classmates when they graduate from high school and successfully
complete one semester of higher education. As far as we know, the fund is up to $6,000. More information on the
song or the scholarship fund is available. Contact us. "The Line Is Being Drawn," was released by Quicksilver Records, Reseda, CA and
is currently out of print. This was Paul's first recording (on vinyl.
Ouch! Remember those days). We're looking into
re-releasing that in CD form sometime in 2009. It was a very thought-provoking project that showed Paul's introspective
side in a humorous, understandable way. It features Paul doing acoustic blues, rock, reggae, and some pop tunes.
All original. Paul still performs a number of the songs on that LP. This album received some limited airplay nationwide.
"Average
Guy." Paul also released an EP. That, too, is out of print. Most of the four songs on
that EP were re-recorded and appear on Paul's current full-length CD, "Beaten Path." There are a couple
of tunes that we may release in the future as a "Bootleg." "Don't Lick A Flagpole When It's Cold," is presently
in post-production. The CD will likely contain 12 songs - all original, with exception of "Velcro," which
is a great, funny song written by Paul's longtime friend and musician, Jack Pearson (see www.ottertunity.org). Since
Paul's regular (read "paying") job is working with 2nd & 3rd graders, most of the music was written
from being immersed in that "laboratory." As Art Linkletter once said, "Kids say the darndest things."
How true. Paul has creatively capitalized on that and this CD promises to be full of fun and funny things kids say,
as well as some great vocalization by the kids themselves. Paul has found a magical balance between writing strong curriculum-based
music (which can sometimes be very, well..."Barney-like"), and a creatively goofy yet honest way to communicate
values like respect, making good choices and friendship to a young audience. Can't wait for this one! Stay
tuned!
Future
Projects.... Paul is working on several other projects
that we hope to release in the near future. Coming out this summer... "21st Century Music Club" an EP of 4 original songs written
& performed by junior and senior high school students at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School. Paul was an instructor
for the club, along with fellow musicians Mike Little (guitar) and Greg Gaston (drums). This CD is part of a program
funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant through the Minnesota Department of Education. Paul recorded
and produced this project.
"Acoustic." Paul is also working on an acoustic project of original songs.
That CD is a ways out. Additionally, he has recorded a few guitar instrumental tunes. The cool thing about this
recording is that Paul played (or will play) all of the songs on his grandpa's 107-year-old Stetson Parlor
Guitar. Sweet! "Walker Worship" In the works is a community-based worship CD of contemporary
original songs (rock & acoustic) written by a number of Paul's friends of the Christian faith who live in the Walker,
Minnesota area. Paul is recording and producing this project. This one, too, is a ways out.
